Treatment of Orbital Tumor
Surgery
It is often performed by both a neurosurgeon and an ophthalmic surgeon. Depending on its location and nature, the surgeons may be able to approach the tumor from the side (laterally), or from above or below the eye (with incisions along the eyebrow or eyelid).
Stereotactic Radiosurgery
This involves the use of a highly focused beam of radiation to target cancer cells. It may be used as an adjunct to surgery.
Radiation Therapy
In this procedure, an external radiation source is directed toward the eye, sinuses, and orbit to destroy the cancer cells.
Brachytherapy
Also called Implant radiation therapy, it is the surgical placement of radiation sources within the tumor or targeted volume.
Chemotherapy
It uses drugs to destroy cancer cells or reduce the risk of tumor recurrence.
