- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden dizziness, fainting or loss of balance
- Severe headache with no known cause
Treatment of Carotid Artery Disease
Carotid Endarterectomy
It is a surgical procedure to remove the plaque that’s blocking the artery. The surgeon makes an incision in the artery over the blocked area. The plaque buildup is then physically peeled out and the artery is closed with tiny sutures.
Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting
This is used in cases where the blockage is difficult to reach through Carotid Endarterectomy. A tiny balloon is threaded by a catheter to the blockage area and is inflated once in place. This inflation helps in widening the artery which is then supported in its position with a stent.
